Indian Mujahideen (IM) founding member Yasin Bhatkal, who was recently arrested near India-Nepal border along with a close aide, has revealed that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is the IM's prime target, an Indian Today report said. Bhatkal told the intelligence officers that IM's international funds flow will in increase manyfold if the IM manages to reach the leader.
He said Modi figures much higher in the list of the IM's targets and is followed by L K Advani, the report said. Bhatkal, who is wanted in several terror activities across the country over the last few years, also said that the IM received huge funds after carrying out the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008. The IM mastermind said that a Bihar-born terrorist, Monu, who was trained in Pakistan has been sent to India to go after the targets but added that he did not know about his whereabouts. The sleuths were, however, surprised to hear Monu's name, the report said, for the latter, accused in the 2010 Chinnaswami Stadium blast, was known to be an old aide of Bhatkal. According to Bhatkal, the man now leads a separate IM module. A National Investigation Team (NIA) team also went to Monu's village in Bihar's Samastipur district and interrogated his relatives, including father, the report added. The investigators also took Monu's old photographs and his parents' blood samples which will be used to develop a DNA profile. Intelligence agencies have informed the Gujarat police about Bhatkal's revelations, the report said. Bhatkal also said that the international patrons of the IM were not happy with its strike rates and backed the grooming of a new terror outfit to take on the big targets ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year.
