Security forces repulse militants’ attack in North Waziristan

At least two militants were killed as security forces repulsed an attack on a check post in Dattakhel Tehsil of North Waziistan tribal region on Wednesday, the military said.

One soldier was also wounded in the attack, security sources said.

An indefinite curfew was imposed on the Bannu-Miranshah Road following the incident.

Officials said the militants launched attack on the Khar Qamar check post that led to a gunbattle for about half an hour.

The attack was carried out at a time when the government has planned peace talks with the Taliban militants.

The APC last week had called upon the govt to initiate talks with the Taliban to end bloodshed. However the Taliban attacks have cast doubts over the possibility of the talks.

The Taliban spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, said Tuesday that the Taliban have not yet decided to stop attacks as the talks have yet to start.

The TTP had also called for the release of its prisoners and withdrawal of troops from the tribal areas as confidence building measures.

The army chief has rejected the Taliban demands in a rare statement this week.
