NEW DELHI: Bangladesh bowler Alauddin Babu on Wednesday created an unwanted world record of conceding a massive 39 runs off one over during a Dhaka Premier Division match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Bowling to former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura, the pacer conceded five off the first ball, which was a no-ball, and then followed it up with a wide. He then went for 6, 4, 6, 4, 6 before sending down another wide and finishing off with a six.
The 39-run total was the most runs conceded in an over in List A cricket (which includes all limited overs matches aside from Twenty20 matches), beating Netherlands legspinner Dan van Bunge, who saw six sixes in an over struck by Herschelle Gibbs in the 2007 World Cup.
Alauddin's expensive over helped Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club reach a total of 282/9 and win the match by runs.
