ISLAMABAD: Presidential elections have been scheduled for August 6 by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and a letter was sent to the Chief Election Commissioner Fakhrudin G Ibrahim in this regard, sources told Express News on Tuesday.
The chief election commissioner of Pakistan approved the date for presidential elections. According to the official schedule, the last day to submit presidential nomination papers will be July 24.
The submitted nomination papers will be scrutinized till July 26.
The approved and official nominees will be introduced on July 29.
The returning officers for the elections will be selected by the CEC himself.
According to sources, the ECP implemented Article 41 of the constitution for the first time in Pakistan which states the process of electing a president must begin at least 2 months, and elections to be conducted a month before the end of the President’s term.
President Asif Ali Zardari’s last day in office is scheduled for September 8, 2013.
President Zardari will not contest the next presidential election according to his spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar.
