Three foreign advisers killed in suicide bombing near Kabul airport



KABUL: A Taliban suicide bomber detonated himself on Tuesday outside Kabul International airport, killing three foreign advisers and an Afghan interpreter, police said.

The nationalities of the foreign advisers were not immediately clear.

The explosion comes days after one of the most audacious militant attacks in a year on the airport, which is used by both civilians and the military.

Afghanistan car bomb leaves at least 38 civilians dead



A suicide car bomber has killed at least 38 people in the east of Afghanistan.

Mohammad Reza Kharoti, an administration chief in the Urgun district of Paktika province, said the attack on Tuesday also wounded more than 40 others.

He said the bomber detonated his vehicle full of explosives near a mosque and a market. All the casualties were civilians.

Afghan suicide attack kills 16, including 4 NATO soldiers



A Taliban suicide bomber killed 16 people, including 10 civilians and four NATO soldiers, in an attack in eastern Afghanistan Tuesday, officials said, as foreign troops wind down their war against the insurgents.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying one of its suicide bombers had blown himself up near a NATO patrol in the province of Parwan, north of the capital Kabul.

The attack comes as Afghanistan is mired in political crisis, with a bitter row raging over allegations of fraud in the presidential runoff election.

Suicide attacker strikes near cafe south of Beirut



A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed vehicle near a checkpoint and a cafe in a neighborhood south of Lebanon's capital early Tuesday, causing several casualties, a Lebanese security official and witnesses said.

Attacks on Baghdad mosques kill nine




BAGHDAD: A Shia and a Sunni mosque in Baghdad were targeted in bombings that killed at least nine people, Iraqi officials said.

Police officials said a suicide bomber set off his explosives on Shia worshippers as they were leaving a mosque in the city's suburb of Hussainya late on Tuesday.

Seven people died and 11 were wounded in that attack.

Three Nato soldiers killed in Afghan suicide blast




GHAZNI: A suicide bomber rode a donkey Tuesday into an Afghan and Nato military convoy, killing three Western soldiers and their Afghan interpreter, officials said.

Nato’s International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) confirmed three casualties in a bombing in eastern Afghanistan but gave no details.

Suicide bomber attacks Iraq army convoy, killing 25




A suicide bomber attacked an Iraqi army convoy in the northern city of Mosul early on Monday, killing at least 22 soldiers and three passers-by, police said.

The bomber drove a vehicle packed with explosives up to a military convoy in the eastern Kokchali district of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, before blowing himself and his car up."A suicide bomber was following the convoy and when it stopped in the middle of road, he detonated his vehicle right behind it," said a policeman at the scene who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Suicide attack the biggest sin in Islam: Fatwa



LAHORE: Ulema of the Sunni Ittehad Council on Saturday declared that suicide bombing is the biggest sin in Islam, Express news reported.

As many as 50 Ulema of the Sunni Ittehad Council in a collective edict declared that killing an innocent is the biggest sin and killing of foreign guest is the worst crime. It was also declared in the edict that attacks on Mosques, hospitals, educational institute, funerals and security forces is not Jihad.

Lawyers boycott legal proceedings over SHC judge attack



KARACHI: Lawyers across the country boycotted court proceedings on Thursday to protest against yesterday’s suicide attack on Sindh High Court’s (SHC) Justice Maqbool Baqar, DawnNews reported.

At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured on Wednesday when a bomb targeting the convoy of Justice Maqbool Baqar exploded near Karachi’s Burns Road area.


Bombing in southeast Pakistan kills 2

QUETTA: An alleged suicide bomber and a civilian were killed in a explosion near a mosque in Kuchlak area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province on Thursday.

A police officer who requested not to be named since he was not authorised to speak to media told Dawn.com that a suspected suicide bomber was carrying a suicide jacket, when killed in a mysterious blast.

"The suicide bomber was coming to Quetta to cause maximum damage, when his own suicide jacket went off", he said.

All seven militants dead at end of Kabul airport attack



KABUL: All seven militants who launched an attack Monday on Kabul airport died in the assault, Afghan police said, adding that no civilian and security force casualties had yet been reported.

"There were seven assailants -- two (suicide bombers) died detonating themselves and five others were killed in fighting," Mohammad Ayoub Salangi, chief of Kabul police, told reporters.


String of bombings kill 12 in Iraq market: officials



BAQUBA: Three near-simultaneous bombings -- two car bombs and a suicide attack -- killed at least a dozen people in a fruit and vegetable wholesale market north of Baghdad on Monday, officials said.

The blasts went off in the town of Judaida al-Shat, which lies just west of the restive city of Baquba and remains one of Iraq's most dangerous.

The bombings left another 48 people wounded, a police officer and a medic said.

Bomb hits JUI-F meeting in Hangu; 10 dead


HANGU: At least 10 people were killed and several others wounded when a bomb went off near a JUI-F’s election gathering here on Tuesday.According to police, the blast took place at the main market in Doaba area of Hangu district. JUI-F candidate in PK-43 Mufti Saeed Janan is also among the injured.Rescue and police teams reached the scene and started the injured to hospitals.According to district administration, curfew was clamped in Hangu immediately after the terrorist attack.

PML-N's women wing leader held for attempted suicide



ISLAMABAD: A leader of the PML-N's women wing was arrested after she attempted self-immolation in Quetta city of southwest Pakistan after being denied a ticket for the May 11 general election, police officials said today.

Police arrested Sakina Mengal on the charge of trying to commit suicide during a news conference at the Quetta Press Club yesterday.

While addressing the conference, Mengal and other women leaders of the PML-N alleged that the party's leadership had ignored old workers who made many sacrifices and instead awarded tickets to persons who had joined the party only recently.

Anti-government strike hits Bangladesh



DHAKA: Opposition activists have detonated small homemade bombs and set fire to several vehicles in the latest anti-government protest to hit Bangladesh’s capital, police said.  

Bangladesh’s main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its 17 allies staged the protest to enforce a nationwide strike Tuesday to press for the release of more than 150 opposition members arrested during earlier anti-government protests.

At least 33 militants killed in Khyber’s Tirah valley



PESHAWAR: Two suicide blasts carried out by the Ansarul Islam (AI)and bombardment from military jets on Mar 18 claimed the lives of at least 33 militants, including a key-militants commander of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and injured many others, sources told Dawn.com.
