Islamabad: Earthquake jolts were felts across Afghanistan and many parts of northern and central Pakistan on Thursday, leaving at least three persons injured in Peshawar city.
According to reports, 5.9-magnitude earthquake occurred at around 11.30 am and was felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi‚ Peshawar‚ Lahore, Muzaffarabad‚ Chitral and Malakand.
The quake was especially severe in Peshawar, where it was lasted almost 30 seconds, TV channels reported. At least three persons were injured in the northwestern city of Pakistan, officials told the media.
Meanwhile, quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale also jolted Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan with no damages reported so far.
Panic and fear struck the affected areas as people rushed out of their homes onto the streets.
The epicentre was located along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, state-run radio reported.
Tremors were also felt in the Kurram tribal region, Neelam Valley in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and many parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
The tremor, which lasted for around 10 seconds, was recorded at 12:02 PM, an official of the Meteorological Department said.
There was no report of any damage to property or injuries to any person, but the tremors created panic among the people of the Valley.
