Even as India is reconsidering its relations with Pakistan, the state government is clueless about 107 Pakistan nationals, who went missing after their visa got expired.
Moreover, 60 Pakistan nationals live in the state without any permit or visa, despite the local authorities
being aware of their whereabouts.
Home minister RR Patil said this in a written reply to a query raised by Bharatiya Janata Party members Dr Sanjay Kute and Devendra Fadnavis.
Till December 31, 2012, 5,807 Pakistan nationals were living in Maharashtra, he said. Of these, 1,975 were given long-term visas, while 72 had short-term visa. Requests for visa extension by 2,144 nationals are pending before the Centre and State, said Patil.
“Nearly 1,330 nationals residing in the state are on a visit visa,” the minister said. Of them, 117 are here for training, conferences and medical treatment.
Patil denied any delay in fishing out illegal immigrants. “We have directed the police authorities and state intelligence to look for them and take action. Some cases are being heard by the courts,” he said.
